Slum Intervention Project - Avert Society

(From 2002 onwards)

The epidemic of HIV / AIDS is spreading at very fast rate in Mumbai. As per the answer given by Hon. Health Minister, Govt. of India in Lok Sabha, 2.1% people from Mumbai are HIV+. This danger sign is on one side and on the other side, all NGOs, CBOs & Govt. Organisations are targeting only high-risk group. The big portion of society is left open where nothing is probed in. Yuvak Pratishthan, when started its campaign, has concentrated on this untouched portion of society. It is found that the HIV/AIDS Epidemic is already knocking the doors of general public.

Objectives:

Reduce impact of STI and HIV/AIDS in the community in Tulshetpada/ Khindipada (Bhandup Mumbai).
 
To dissipate the message of “Prevention of HIV/AIDS”.
To aware people, especially Youth and Women about HIV/AIDS.
To aware people about Prevention Methods of HIV / AIDS.
To aware people with High Risk Behavior about danger and prevention to be taken.
To strengthen the moral of PLWA by the way of Economical Activities.
To develop Health Workers among Slums.
To develop total Health Awareness among the masses especially about T.B.

Tulshetpada/Khindipada, Bhandup West, Mumbai - 78.

Awareness in the community.
One to One and One to Group awareness, Behavioral change programmes.
Counselling.
Condom promotion activities.
Developing peer and education.
Education & Sensitization Programmes.
Counselling of STD/STI Patient
Distribution of Condoms.
Peer Education and Training.
Strengthening linkages & building networks.

Training Programme for Health Workers.
Lectures on AIDS Awareness for General Public.
Life Style Education for Age Group 15 to 20 yrs.
AIDS Awareness Lectures for Women.
AIDS Awareness Programme for Senior Citizens to take care of their families.
Mobile Awareness Counseling Van.
Unique health and awareness campaign for women living in slums and unnerved areas.
 
To create health consciousness among the women and their families.
Provide free medicines and counselling.
