Follow up:
A unique Health Survey was
conducted in Mumbai by Yuvak Pratishthan in 100 major
slums/ chawls by approaching 50,000 families. Collection
of data was done and the final data was made available
to the society and other health organisations.
Health Mela organised at
Kurla Sakinaka was conducted on three days, 29th, 30th
& 31st January, 2004 at Venue St. Judes High School
Ground, Jarimari, Sakinaka, Kurla (W). More than 70,000
individuals were benefitted with medical help from this
Health Mela and more than 50,325 patients were dispensed.
There were 55 stalls arranged
for health check-ups and counseling centers. These stalls
were managed by 300 Doctors, 200 Paramedical from 22
Institutions and 25 Hospitals. They were helped by 400
volunteers. After Health Mela, School Health check-up
was conducted in respective schools of that area. 2,033
school children were examined by medicos. During the
Health Mela patients who required Secondary and Tertiary
health care were referred to respective Institution
for further management. 750 people were counseled for
Family Planning. Stress was small family norm and Male
involvement in family planning through Non -Scalpel
Vasectomy. 95 patients of suspected T.B. cases were
referred for treatment in RNTCP. 350 patients were detected
of Diabetes Mellitus. During Ophthalmic check-up, over
480 patients with vision defects were provided with
spectacles at subsidized rates. 214 patients of Cataract
were detected and to be operated in first week of March
2004 at K. J. Somaiya Hospital, Nair Hospital, Sion
Hospital in Mumbai.
31 patients with Hearing
Defects were referred to
Ali Yavar Jung National Institute
for Hearing Impaired, Bandra, out of which Hearing Aids
required were provided by the Institute free of cost.
During the Health Mela 17
patients of Leprosy were detected and treatment was
started for the patients of suspected Cancer were referred
to Tata Memorial Hospital.
17 patients of Heart disease
(Congenital Heart disease, Ischemic Heart disease etc)were
detected. These patients were provided Monetary Aid
by Yuvak Pratishthan through various trusts.
Continuos follow-up of referred
patients form Health Mela is going on in the area by
field-workers of Yuvak Pratishthan to motivate the patients
to avail the treatment modalities at Institutional level.
10 Mini Arogya Melas were
conducted at the door step of slum dwellers to identify
the problems of senior citizens. 123 patients were sent
for cataract operations at various hospitals.
