Shifting of Hutment near
Mumbai Airport

Will the Minister of Civil Aviation be
pleased to state :
-
Whether the Government propose
to shift hutment near Mumbai Airport;

If so, the number of hutments,
slums located on/near Airport Authority land at
Mumbai;
-
Whether the Airport Authority of
India and Government of Maharashtra have chalked
out resettlement programme of the hutments near
the runway;
-
if so, the details thereof;
-
The total expenditure to be borne
on this resettlement programme; and
-
The time by which hutments/slums
near Mumbai airport are likely to be resettled?

There is a proposal to shift
the hutments near Mumbai airport in a phased manner.

As per census taken in 1995, approximately
85,000 hutments are scattered/located on the Airports
Authority of India's (AAI) land all around Mumbai
airport.

AAI and Government of Maharashtra
have chalked out a programme for resettlement
of 2500 hutments in Jari Mari area under Phase-I
which is required for immediate critical operations.
It has been planned to undertake survey of this
area by the State Government agency. No time frame
for this can be given, at present, till the completion
of the survey.
