(From1999 onwards)

TB kills more adults in India than any other infectious disease. It is estimated that there are 14 million TB cases in our country out of which 3.5 million are sputum positive. About 1 million sputum positive cases are added every year.

India has a long history of research and demonstration projects in TB. Despite, the existence of a National Tuberculosis Control Programme since 1962, the desired results have not been achieved. There is an over dependence on X-ray for diagnosis. Treatment methods used are often non-standard and ineffective. In both public and private sectors, incomplete treatment is the norm rather than the exception.

In view of the above situation, we at Yuvak Pratishthan have started 26 TB-DOT Centres for the benefit of under privileged people.

TB poses one of the biggest threats to the health of our countrymen. 40% of the Indian population have TB infection and everyday nearly 5 lakh die of TB. But with proper awareness and medication it is curable in 6 months time. Yuvak Pratishthan in association with Mumbai District Tuberculosis Control Society has already started 200 TB-DOT centers in Northeast Mumbai, alone. The MOU has been signed with government agencies for free diagnosis and medication of the patients.

TB Free Mumbai Campaign

It was flagged of in the year 1999-2000 and so far various awareness programs were carried out on massive scale. A total of 496 were treated under 190 doctors across 200 DOT centers in North-East Mumbai. The Government is spending Rs. 4,650/- per patient, in this campaign.

Yuvak Pratishthan has planned to take this scheme to the down trodden through outdoor-indoor publicity, public rallies, press advertisements, arranging meetings & encouraging doctors/chemists/CBO participation. The aim is to open 500 DOT centers, which will cover 50,000 patients at an expenditure of Rs. 100/- per patient.
