Introduction
Investors’ Grievances Forum (IGF) is
a Non - Govternment Organization based at
Mumbai, established in the year 1994, under
the leadership and guidance of Shri Kirit
Somaiya. It is an association of professionals
with a social objective dedicated to the protection
and safeguarding of the rights of investors
through education, awareness, guidance, mass
campaigns and representations to regulators,
govt. authorities and courts.
IGF is registered as a society under the
Societies Registration Act, as a Trust under
the Bombay Public Trust Act and as an Investor
Association with the SEBI.
It was only with the concerted efforts
of this forum that the first ever Investor
Protection Act came into being in Maharashtra
in the year 1999 which subsequently was
adopted by many other states in India. In
the last one decade the number of investors
have grown from a mere 30 lakhs to around
6.30 crores, the fact of the matter being
that the system to educate investors has
not developed proportionately and with regulatory
authorities not being too vigilant of their
duties.
IGF is committed to enhance the awareness
among investors to keep them well informed
and educate them on their rights and duties
enriching their knowledge as to understanding
of market mechanism.
IGF strives to achieve its goals by conducting
various seminars, budget meetings and Investor
Melas alongwith issue of a monthly magazine
called Alert Investor containing information
of immense use to the investors.
