RUPEE VS. DOLLAR – ABNORMAL FLUCTUATION DESTROYS INDIAN ECONOMY

-- Dr. Kirit Somaiya

Marathi

Rupee is quoted at its lowest at Rs.44.11 against the Dollar in the Indian market today.  In the beginning of this year, i.e. on 16.1.2008, the Rupee was strongest at Rs.39.02 against the Dollar.  Do Mr. Chidambaram and RBI have any explanation for such horrible fluctuation, questioned the BJP leader & National Executive Member, Dr. Kirit Somaiya.

This is an abnormal and horrible fluctuation of Rupee vs. Dollar.  The Rupee gets appreciated steeply and it gets depreciated in the similar fashion.  It destroys both the industries, first the export and then import.  There is no logic or economic reason for the same.  This is a lacklustre expensive tendency of Mr. Chidambaram, Finance Minister of Congress Govt., which is causing such problems.

BJP says that it is the support of the Government, particularly the Finance Ministry, to support the speculative transaction in all markets – whether it is Forex, Capital Market or Commodity Market.  Though oil prices have come down from USD 140 to USD 120, why Rupee is depreciating so speedily, questioned Dr. Kirit Somaiya.
