Mumbai continues to be
neglected by the Centre. All announcements
of special packages for “development of
Mumbai” have proved to be hollow and empty
alleged Dr Kirit Somaiya, at a Press
Conference in Mumbai.
He stated that Mumbai, the
Financial and Economic Capital of India, has
contributed Rs.4,93,000 crores during the
period 2004-2009 to the Central Govt. kitty
through Income Tax, Service Tax, etc. but
has received only Rs.551 crores grants for
various projects aimed at development of
Mumbai in the last 5 years of Congress
rule. Mumbai BJP leader, Dr. Kirit Somaiya
has strongly condemned the step-motherly
treatment towards Mumbai.
Shri Somaiya added that the
much touted Mithi River Project has received
“zero paise”, Metro Railway has received
Rs.2.34 crores from Govt. of India. MMRDA,
the Nodal Agency of Maharashtra Govt., has
intimated Dr. Somaiya that from 1.4.2004 to
20.1.2009, it has received in all Rs.551
crores.

It may be noted that the Congress Chief
Ministers, Members of Parliament and Union
Ministers have made several announcements
about a special package and grant to
Mumbai. The Prime Minister himself had
announced a special package of Rs.1,000
crores for Mumbai. All these have proved to
be empty announcements and in reality, as of
now, not a single paisa is received till
now. |
