days over to
11th July 2006
Bomb Blast of Mumbai.
1077 victims/families need healing
touch.
First they were attacked by
terrorism and now by red tapism.
Government should undertake a
special audit of performance of providing
help as announced for the blast victims,
demanded BJP leader, Dr. Kirit Somaiya, ex
MP. There
is a need for accountability.
Hundreds
of victims are yet to receive :
i)
Claims from Railway Claims
Tribunal
ii)
Support for successive
medical surgeries
iii)
Support for artificial limb
iv)
Aid for hearing loss
v)
Compensation announced by the
State Government
vi)
Reimbursement of medical
expenses
vii)
Job
as announced by Railway Ministry
viii)
Proper rehabilitation measures.
Government
announced formation of Special Bench of
Railway Claims Tribunal at Mumbai to
attend to Blast claims.
It is a pity that till today, only
174 claims have been settled.
Special Bench started functioning
in November 2006 and had only 4 sittings
till now.
Of 187 death, 164 death claims,
compensation of Rs.4 lacs have been
sanctioned till now.
Only 10 cases of injured have been
settled till now.
Dr.
Kirit Somaiya met Railway Board Chairman,
Shri J.P. Batra, National Human Rights
Commission and Shri Prithviraj Chavan, MOS
at PMO Office at
Delhi
on Monday, have urged action plan to
provide help for all the medical claims,
artificial limbs, claims compensation,
employment before the completion of the
first year on
11th July 2007
.
The
attitude of the State Government is
horrible.
Although the Railways have paid
ex-gratia financial compensation to 1054
victims/families, State Government have
attended to only 828 victims/families.
According to Mumbai Police, there
were 1077 victims/affected people.
Railway’s list shows 1082
victims.
The State Government’s
Rehabilitation Dept. list shows only 828
names.
During
a survey undertaken by Yuvak Pratishthan
of 100 affected persons, it is observed
that in Thane alone 11 persons have not
got State Govt.’s financial compensation
due to laxity of funds at the Thane
Collectorate.
This includes one dead.
Dr.
Kirit Somaiya says, with the help and
support of the Society and Government, new
life can be provided to these victims of
terrorism -
1)
Samir Gujarathi with the
help of electronic leg is now riding motor
cycle
2)
Kamlesh Rajbhor with 2 new
electronic legs has restarted his “Paani
Puri” business
3)
Kamal Khemka with an
electronic hand can drink water and is
doing writing exercise now.
The
tragedy of terrorism is that 2 persons are
yet in coma –
1.
Parag Sawant in
Hinduja
Hospital
2.
Amit Singh in
Jaslok
Hospital
Dr.
Somaiya has demanded fulfillment of all
commitments before end of the first year
on
11th July 2007
.
