Political parties and politicians should ignore the vote
bank politics and come out in support of
widening and strengthening the Mithi
Rejuvenation work, appealed BJP leaders,
Dr. Kirit Somaiya & Shri Gopal Shetty.
It is sad that, in spite of sustained
follow up, not a single foot widening is
done between Airport and CST Road, CST-BKC,
Kapadia Nagar, Parigh Khadi.
It is a pity that both Congress and NCP leaders, MLAs are
determined not to touch a single “bhangarwala”.
Both the parties are united to protect
their vote bank. Under the High Court
monitoring, widening was done in the
first Phase, i.e. in 2005-06. Since
then, political pressure tactics is
going on to protect these unauthorized
encroachers.
Dr. Kirit Somaiya and Shri Gopal Shetty have expressed
concern and fear that there is going to
be water logging, water bottle neck at
this junction. BMC has completed the
River widening work from the beginning
of Mithi River, i.e. from Sanjay Gandhi
Rashtriya Udyan/Vihar Lake till the
Airport Junction. The River has been
widened at the northern side of the
Airport, i.e. Kranti Nagar upto 300 ft.
MMRDA has also widened the River to 300
to 800 ft. upto BKC. But about 1.5 km
area has been left at 150 to 180 ft.
between Airport (South) to CST Road and
BKC.
Congress-NCP Govt., keeping in mind ensuing Lok Sabha and
Vidhan Sabha elections, is forcing the
Mumbaikar to have one more 26th
July in this area. 540 people had died
at the Mithi Bank on 26th
July 2005. A little heavy rain shall
create similar havoc now. Just to
protect bhangarwalas and couple of other
structures, Govt. is playing with the
lives of Mumbaikars.
BJP appealed to the bureaucrats not to come under pressure
of vested politicians. It has appealed
to MMRDA Commissioner, BMC Commissioner
and Chief Secretary not to bow down and
see that the River is widened as per the
recommendations of Chitale and other
expert committees of 300 ft. or so.
BJP leaders fear that there shall be water logging at the
Airlines Colonies, Kalpana Talkies
Junction, LBS Marg, Central Railway
tracks near Kurla.
It is a pity that the Congress-NCP Govt.
at the Centre, after announcing a grant
of Rs.1,260 crores, has not contributed
a single paise till today. The same is
the case about Maharashtra Government.
The project is being implemented by BMC
and MMRDA from their own funds.
