Maharashtra Govt.’s
jungle raj reined in. After 36 months, now
the State Govt. is compelled to withdraw its
policy of declaring developed 4 to 64 year
old buildings as Forest, filing affidavit
and arguing at Mumbai High Court that these
are Forest.
At the hearing of CEC
held at Delhi, Government has now accepted
the reality, agreed with Dr. Kirit Somaiya’s
and residents’ demand to correct the Govt.
stand.
It may be recalled that
during the last hearing of 11th
November 2008, State Govt. took objection to
Dr. Somaiya’s proposal of providing relief
to 4.5 lac residents at one stroke.
However, CEC ultimately declared its opinion
that “CEC will recommend to the Supreme
Court to provide relief at one stroke to 4.5
lac innocent residents”.
On the directives of
CEC, Dr. Somaiya had submitted details of
buildings, survey numbers of 4.5 affected
residents. These details are available at
the website :
www.kiritsomaiya.com.
Similar type of relief
can be made for all such old
residences/strictures of Thane.
At the hearing at Delhi,
Dr. Somaiya and few farmers from Pune
requested to provide protection to innocent
farmers. The case of such farmers, whose
living is dependent on so-called Private
Forest land, is kept for hearing on 17th
December. Hearing for on-going structures,
etc., is kept on 15th and 16th
December.
