7/11 Mumbai Blast – Human Rights Commission asked Govt. to expedite medical relief & rehabilitation of remaining 212 victims

At last the State Government has accepted that 212 victims of 7/11 Mumbai bomb blast are yet to receive medical relief. 

During the hearing of Petition of Dr. Kirit Somaiya, the Human Rights Commission has issued directives to the State Government to expedite the process of providing medical relief, artificial limbs, hearing aids and balance financial compensation.  The Commission has also asked the State Govt. to submit progress report on 18th October 2007.

In a recent communication, the State Govt. has intimated that 9 victims from Mumbai City, 68 from Mumbai Suburban Dist. And 135 from Thane Dist. are waiting for financial compensation, medical treatment, artificial limb or hearing aids.  The State Govt. has asked all the Collectors to complete the processing of pending relief and rehabilitation work by 15th October 2007.

Major grievances of the victims are :

Ø      Need of artificial limb

Ø      Need of hearing aid

Ø      Long term medical treatment/expenditure

Ø      Reimbursement of medical expenses

Ø      Pending payment of financial compensation.

Dr. Kirit Somaiya once again met the National Human Rights Commission Chairman, Justice S. Rajendra Babu on 9th October 2007.  Dr. Somaiya has appealed to the victims to submit documents to the concerned Collectorate for pending relief and rehabilitation.

The Govt. has to submit the progress report on 18th October at the hearing with Maharashtra Human Rights Commission at 12 noon.
